The NHS Care Record Service project is a ten year project comprising of four different stages. These stages are called 'releases' - Release 0, Release 1, Release 2 and Release 3.

R0 is the first stage of deployment of the Cerner product for most organisations, and it is the foundation for all of the other releases.  It meets the requirements that are necessary to manage patient records.  The following stages R1 - R3 will be implemented as trusts become ready for the new technology.  The stages represent the upgrades in the technology and services available to the NHS including targeting specific disciplines, wards and departments with increasingly advanced tecnhology to help health care professionals work.
